The Earth is unique: seventy-one percent (71%) of its surface area is covered by water - the basis of life. The atmosphere, on the other hand, contains twenty-one percent (21%) oxygen - a byproduct of biological processes.
Without water there is no life, and without life there is no oxygen. No other planet in our solar system is constructed in the same way.
We have the power to determine how life on our planet will be in 50 to 100 years. We can choose either a fascinating world full of life, of variety and natural wonder, or we can choose a world in which very few species besides humans exist.
Right now we are on the brink of the extinction of many species. There are five major causes which lead to this:
The destruction of habitat is undoubtedly one of the main threats to a variety of species and that is why Naturefund is focussing so heavily on the preservation of habitat. If this destruction continues at the current pace, in a hundred years' time it is likely that half of all living creatures will be seriously endangered, if not already extinct.
Right now we still have a choice and it is possible to stop this damage through commitment, education and raising awareness.
