Naturefund secures farmland and finances fence for pilot field in Burkina Faso.

With the goal of stemming the massive deforestation, reforesting and showing people a more sustainable way to produce food, Naturefund is starting a new project in Burkina Faso together with Climate Sol. In a first major step, we succeeded in securing a 1.6 hectare farmland. This is located near Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. A dynamic agroforestry system is to be established here in the near future. This cultivation method will enable the people living there to plant food and reforest at the same time. The area is to serve as a pilot field to demonstrate the innovative cultivation method to interested parties. Currently, however, the farmland is still lying fallow. This is partly due to the inadequate water supply, but also to the free-roaming goats that roam the area - because the goats eat the freshly planted seedlings. In order to protect the young plants from this, Naturefund has financed a fence, which was drawn around the land. In a next step, a solar well will be built to secure the water supply for the field and the people.
