Here you will find the press photos to the press release: "Wisents in Germany: Successfully returned to the wild since five years", from the 08.11.2018
Five years ago, a unique conservation project in Western Europe began: the release of eight bisons in North Rhine-Westphalia. It has become a great success, since the small herd of once eight animals has grown to about 20 to 25 animals. The animals were once domestic in Europe, but they disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century. The last wisent who was living in the wild was shot in 1927 in the Caucasus. Thus, the release contributes crucially to the preservation of the European bison.
