Kirr island is an island in the Baltic Sea, located between the German county Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the German peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst. The coasts of the type vorpommerische Boddenlandschaft were created by melting glaciers from the last ice age.
Detail: Kirr island
Kirr island is the best known saltmarsh grass island in the national park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. It consists of a sandbar which is covered with peat from a coastal flood mire. The island emerged from the former backwater delta of the Straminke inlet, now silted up. The landscape-forming processes of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft stand out by size in Central Europe.
