"The CAP must remain a communitarized policy area. Renationalization would have unforeseen consequences and would lead to different standards in Europe. I certainly don't want that! Comprehensive agriculture can only be achieved with a common agricultural policy.
The CAP must modernize. We must ensure that the European Commission's proposals for a new delivery model are implemented in such a way that the various objectives are achieved: These include producing nutritious and safe food for people, an income that farmers can live on, protecting the environment as the basis for farmers' businesses and strengthening rural areas.
In my view, family farms play a major role in this. They operate sustainably with future generations in mind, ensure the provision of high-quality regional products and take care of our cultural landscape.
We must work together to strengthen the awareness that quality and sustainability are a hallmark of our rural agriculture. The work of the farmers and the food produced must be given greater appreciation. This cannot be achieved at dumping prices. If you want vital rural areas, you have to help make agriculture future-proof."
