Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) joins in!

Naturefund together with the nature protection organisation NABU saved two forests in Hesse.

In 2006 Naturefund and the Steinau NABU group purchased a Melic-grass Beech forest with a natural spring and an ancient orchard covering a total of 56,000 square metres. The Beech forest with its old trees offers habitat for rare species of bat such as Noctule bat, greater mouse-eared bat and Daubenton's bat.

In the summer of 2005 Naturefund together with the Wildeck-Obersuhl branch of NABU, bought a marshland forest covering 92,000 square metres, which includes a wetland meadow and lake. The land borders the 'Am Rhäden' conservation area. The 'Rhäden' is an important marshland, where 230 species of bird can be found. One of the largest Grey Heron colonies of Hesse uses the marshland forest as its breeding ground.
