LA’BiO! Supports Naturefund and Crowdsalat’s Inclusive Summer Project with €5,000
Digging your hands into the soil, sowing seeds, watching the first green shoots sprout, and observing butterflies—gardening brings moments of special joy. When people share these experiences, trust, connections, and new communities flourish. This is exactly what happened last summer through an inclusive gardening project made possible with support from LA’BiO!
Together with the nature conservation organization Naturefund and the community-supported agriculture initiative Crowdsalat from Dülmen, the organizers brought together people who otherwise rarely have access to gardening and nature experiences. This included people with refugee backgrounds as well as families from diverse cultural backgrounds or from socially disadvantaged circumstances.
As participants planted, tended, and harvested lettuce, carrots, and potatoes together, a vibrant space for exchange emerged. Here, they learned from one another—about sustainable vegetable farming, food, and traditional farming methods from various regions around the world. Language and cultural barriers were overcome quite naturally in the process. More than 40 guests accepted the invitation and met with about 25 members of the community-supported agriculture group in the field. Many of these connections continue to this day, linking initiatives from Coesfeld and Dülmen in a growing network of mutual support.
Danny van Leuven also emphasizes the importance of such initiatives: “Gardening together means more than just growing vegetables. It fosters connections, builds confidence in one’s own abilities, and connects people with nature. Projects like this show how easily integration, environmental education, and a zest for life can come together.
LA’BiO! has been supporting Naturefund since 2008 and has funded numerous projects to protect nature and biodiversity with over 800,000 euros. Through its commitment, LA’BiO! aims to demonstrate how nature projects can build bridges—as places for learning, sharing, and shared experiences. The gardening project exemplifies how sustainable agriculture and social responsibility can go hand in hand.”
