Naturefund: Nature conservation in Germany and worldwide

Naturefund was founded in 2003 as a non-profit organisation. Since then we have been working to buy land for nature, to conserve and rebuild ecosystems and thus to preserve habitats for a variety of animal and plant species. Buying land is one of the safest and quickest ways to preserve our nature and ecosystems.

Through the purchase of meadows, forests or wetlands and through close cooperation with local partners, Naturefund as a nature conservation organisation ensures that nature can develop undisturbed in the long term. Numerous donors have so far supported Naturefund in securing, purchasing and preserving 1.5 million m² of land for nature.

In the course of climate change, Naturefund is also increasingly buying forests and reforesting them - in Germany and worldwide. Whether in the tropical rainforest, in European low mountain ranges, on native orchards or fields: Naturefund has so far been able to plant more than 500,000 trees and thus breathe life back into degraded forests. By planting trees in fields, Naturefund also creates new income opportunities for farmers in Africa, Latin America and Europe.

Naturefund: Help us protect valuable ecosystems!

It is a fact that a large part of the earth has fewer and fewer near-natural or natural habitats - including Germany. Instead, more and more of the land is being used and influenced by traffic routes, settlements, industry or forestry and agriculture. Currently, for example, just under 0.6 per cent of the land area in Germany is considered wilderness. This is problematic because areas where nature can develop free from human influence are essential for the preservation of biodiversity.

When protecting nature, there are always synergies with the protection of species and the climate: moors, forests or grasslands, for example, are hotspots of biodiversity and at the same time important carbon sinks. This is one of the reasons why the EU Biodiversity Strategy sets a target of ten percent strictly protected nature in the member states by 2030. This is exactly what we are aiming for with our projects - the creation of protected areas for the long-term conservation of our valuable nature.
