Forests, meadows, lakes and more ...
In the range of conservation projects, Naturefund is not fixed to a particular biotope type. We buy forests, meadows, lakes and other areas in Germany, Europe and worldwide.
Essential for a new project is that the land is relatively untouched, or rather that it has the potential to return to its natural state. Thus we are interested in areas with a great abundunce of species, rare animals or a unique type of habitat.
Main selection criteria for a project
Every project will be chosen individually. The reasons behind each decision include the following criteria:
- The country in which the project is located has less than 10% of its land area under conservation.
- The area is big enough or borders an already protected area so that the various species there can survive independently, without needing to be looked after.
- The majority of the people from that area are positive about the idea that the area will be bought for conservation purposes.
- A long-lasting conservation of the area is ensured by public laws and guidelines as well as by the care of partner organisations and/or through integrated ecological business concepts, for example through eco-tourism et. al.
- The price of the land doesn't exceed the local market value and preferably is below this.
- The country in which the project is located has been politically stable for more than ten years and has a functioning legal system.
- Naturefund or a partner organisation will become the owner of the land.
Naturefund reserves the right to change or develop these criterias.
Initial details required for a new project
If you know of an area of land that is worthy of protection, a conservation organisation that is able to take care of the project and is interested in working with Naturefund then we firstly require the following details about the project:
- Type of biotope;
- Size in hectares/square metres and geographic location;
- Special characteristics;
- Price per hectare/square metre;
- Cost per year per hectare;
- Status of the sale;
- Concept of the land management/potential partners to manage the land.
We look forward to hearing your proposals!
